I started knitting when I was six and asked my mother to teach me. I learned well enough to tackle a sweater when I was twelve. Although I may not have finished that, I was confident as a knitter and picked it up again on and off through college and graduate school in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.

When I became a stay at home mother, I got serious about knitting because I could be both creative and productive while watching my children. Through the years I have taken lots of classes, read quite a few books and designed many gifts for family members. Now that my children are grown, I have time to pursue designing.

I like all types of knitting, but I particularly enjoy felting because it transforms the object so delightfully. When designing something, it is not always clear how it will look after felting, but it is so much fun to find out. Swatches make great coasters.

I think every woman could use a new purse and a tote bag. We are all carrying around lots of stuff and these items make great gifts, too. I hope you will try some of these bags, your friends won't believe you made them.
